Entries now open for East Lothian Cross Country in scenic John Muir Country Park

The scenic John Muir Country Park will host the 2017 Team East Lothian Open Cross Country, which incorproates the East Lothian Championships, on Saturday 04 February 2017 with the first race scheduled for 1pm. Online entries are now live, with entries on the day also being taken. Non-scottishathletics members (U13 and above) will need to pay a £2.00 levy on the day. The event is held under UK Athletics rules and is a scottishathletics permitted event.

Registration will open at 12noon at East Links Cafe, and will close 20minutes before each race. There are toilet facilities at the Linkfield car park to the John Muir Country Park, where there will be some changing tents availalbe. The event will include three races, with the first starting at 1.00pm with the Under-9 and Under-11 1.4mile race; 1.30pm with the Under-13, Under-15 and Under-17 2.75mile race; 2.15pm with the Senior and Vetrans 4.8mile race.

Online entry is £3.00 for junior athletes, £5.00 for senior athletes. Non-scottishathletics members (U13 and above) will need to pay a £2.00 levy on the day.

 

Registration & Declarations
All athletes who have registered online must declare their intention to compete and collect their bib number at least 20 minutes before their scheduled race time. Declarations/Registration will open at 12.00 at the East Links Cafe. Entries on the day will still be accepted.

 

Course

Please see attached the map for the cross country course. Please note that runners will not have priority over walkers or dog walkers in the country park. We do not recommend running spikes on the course. 

 

Car Parking
Car Parking is available and owners park their vehicles at their own risk. Free car Parking will be firstly at the East Links Cafe, then public car park at Linkfield car park (charges may apply). Please follow the directions of the car park steward on the day.   

Toilets & Changing
Public toilets are available near the race start area, at the edge of the Linkfield car park. There will be a separate male and female gazebo/tent for changing near the start area – belongings left in the tents are done so at the owners own risk. We cannot accept any liability for lost, stolen or damaged property.

Refreshments
The East Links cafe (where registration is situated) is open to public to purchase hot and cold refreshments and snacks.

Race Winners
Thanks to local sports shop Joe Forte Sports, the first male and female athlete in each race in the U9, U11, U13, U15, U17, Senior/ Vets age groups will receive a gift voucher to spend at Joe Forte Sports.   

East Lothian Championships & Medal Presentations
Awards will be presented shortly after the conclusion of each race. Medals will be awarded to the first 3 athletes in the U9B, U9G, U11B, U11G, U13B, U13G, U15B and U15G age groups (and U17s depending on entry size). In addition, all athletes who are either an East Lothian athletics club member or are a resident of the county of East Lothian will be included in the East Lothian Championships. Medals will be awarded to the first East Lothian athlete in every age group category.

U9: aged 7 or 8 on 31st August 2016
U11: aged 9 or 10 on 31st August 2016
U13: aged 11 or 12 on 31st August 2016
U15: aged 13 or 14 on 31st August 2016
U17: aged 15 or 16 on 31st August 2016
U20: aged 17, 18, 19 on 31st December 2016
Senior: aged 20 or over on 31st December 2016

 

How to Get to John Muir Country Park

By bicycle / car
Follow the A1. At the Thistly Cross Roundabout, take the turning towards Dunbar/East Linton/North Berwick. Arriving soon after at a second roundabout, turn right (along the A1087, signposted Dunbar). After one kilometre, turn left and follow the signs into Linkfield car park which is clearly signposted.

By train
ScotRail services operate to Dunbar from both Edinburgh and from the south. Virgin trains also run services between the capital and Dunbar. From Dunbar station it is a 15 minute walk to the E end of John Muir Country Park - i.e. Dunbar harbour.

By Bus
First Bus services X6/ 8 / 106 operate between Edinburgh and Dunbar, ask the driver to drop you off near to John Muir Country Park.
