North Berwick youngster Ben Riddle claimed double success in the boys’ events at the U11 National Badminton Championships.

Riddle a singles semi-finalist last year won his three group matches before beating Isle of Lewis prospect Keith Bray 21-9 in the last 16 knockout round.

He followed that up with a 21-15 quarterfinal win over Motherwell’s Matthew Waring and a 21-12 semi-final win over Glasgow’s Karan Shah, his doubles partner.

That led the Law Primary pupil to the final, where he faced Stonehaven’s Joseph O’Neil-Ferrero, who beat Callum Short 23-21 in the closest of the day’s contests. Riddle put in an excellent display to take the title. winning the final 21-12.

In the boys doubles Riddle partnered Shah as he looked to retain the doubles crown he won alongside Harry Bent last year. They came through four group matches for the loss of just 22 points to earn a bye in the knockout quarterfinals.

In the semi-final, they overcame Waring and Glasgow’s Jac McLaughlin 21-8 to earn a final clash with second seeds O’Neil-Ferrero and Short. who had beaten Bray and Kirkwall’s Erland Ballantine in the semi-finals 21-15. The final went to top seeds, as Riddle and Shah claimed a 21-7 win and Riddle claiming two National titles.
