Double Success for East Lothian Falcons U17's

East Lothian U17’s beat Borders U17’s in double header as part of preparation for summer U18 Regional Academy fixtures

Falcons U17s vs Borders

The East Lothian Falcons U17 rugby squad played two fixtures against the Borders U17’s recently. Over 30 boys from East Lothian schools got the chance to play in at least one of the two fixtures which were played on a home and away bases. The first fixture was played on 30th November at Meadowmill and the turnout of support for the fixture was really impressive. East Lothian dominated most facets of the game and won 26-0. The defence of the East Lothian team was really effective in stopping the Borders team.

The return fixture was played down in Gala on and the players knew that it would be a tougher prospect playing the Borders down on their home patch. To their credit, the Borders team were much improved from the first fixture and had East Lothian under pressure, leading 7 – 0 at half time. The East Lothian team managed to take a few opportunities in the second half and scored three tries, running out eventual 17 – 7 winners . The match was much closer than the first fixture and was a true test of character for the players involved.

The next stage of the process is the selection of a combined East Lothian / Borders U17 squad to play against the Newcastle Falcons U17 Academy team in February. I am sure that the East Lothian players that are chosen for this fixture will take the opportunity with both hands.
