Football Development 2016 Highlights

East Lothian's Football Development has had a very busy and successful year in 2016 check out highlights below.

This year hase seen new participation centres opening in each of the main towns thanks to sponsors Lidls supports the Skills Centres programme, the school taster programme in association with Tesco Bank Football Challenge has provided football taster sessions to over 1000 primary 3 pupils across the whole county culminating in 6 cluster festivals.

There has been plenty of Schools Team football also with regular festivals for P6/P7s girls and boys festivals both indoors and outdoors, secondary school teams have taken part in the Youth Games and Futsal Cups for S1 to S3 teams.

The Bank of Scotland Midnight League programme linked up with local community clubs Tranent Colts and Dunbar Utd Colts for the first time with great success with around 30 youths attending free football sessions for 10 weeks at each venue.

We have now opened the door for the older generation to play the game with 2 new Walking Football centres opening in Port Seton and Tranent thanks to the good work of Cockenzie Star and Tranent Colts.

Our Holidays Campss and Coach Education courses continue to be well attended and the 3G astro facilities lend a hand to offering attractive facilities to learn and play football on.

It's always pleasing to see people being recognised for their hard work and that was certainly case for Vanda Dow and Willie Gilhooley picking up regional grassroots awards and former PAiS footballers Matty Knox and Ellis Notley receiving Scotland U17 caps and current PAiS Kirsty Morrison being selected for Scotland U16s.

Finally, a special mention for the amazing trip to East Africa as part of the Commonwealth Legacy to support the development of youth football in Rwanda. It was a truly humbling experience for the group that were there and one that will continually be developed in the years to come.
