Judy Murray attends Longniddry Tennis Club Open Day

Longniddry Tennis Club serves a slice for Judy Murray at their successful open day on March 29th...

Longniddry Tennis Club was delighted to receive a visit from ‘Tennis Royalty’ in the form of Judy Murray, when she made a surprise visit to their Open Day on Saturday 29th March. The club knew she was partial to cake and had tweeted her in the morning with details of the day and also that there was 'homebaking to die for...'. Murray went straight on court to help with coaching the children and then had a cup of tea and the 'home baking to die for'. She was the 'icing on the cake'.  The Open Day, which was organised to mark the start of the season and a bid to resurface the courts was an overwhelming success and the Club would like to thank all the people who helped and also came to the day. Judy Murray summed up the day beautifully in a tweet she made just after the visit ' Longniddry's 2 public courts resurrected 2day. lumpy, bumpy tarmac. Not full length. Spray -on lines . 80 people. Making it work. Gr8 start x'. The turn out was fantastic; the younger children had a wonderful time at tennis focussed Enjoy-a-Ball sessions in the Scout Hut, the older kids were coached on the courts and it was great to see so many of the local community show up to find out more , support the club and become members.

Thanks to all that entered the logo competition and thank you to Mrs Morgan for judging them. Well done to the overall winner - Max Blair. His logo will be added to the new sign above the court. Congratulations to Kieran Allan-Brown , the 8 and under winner, and to Emma Bryden, the 13+ winner.

Our club night  is on a Monday and or Thursday from 18:30 - adult members please come along. Children at Longniddry Primary School are getting tennis lessons in school in the Summer term.
