Rugby Pre-Season in Full Swing

Pais rugby athletes are working hard as they prepare for the coming season with pre-season training

Pais rugby pre-season

Most rugby clubs in East Lothian will now be in full swing with pre-season training. This is no different for the rugby Pais athletes who are working alongside the Borders East Lothian Regional Academy squad while gearing up for the new season. The players are hard at work which includes strength and conditioning sessions starting at 8am on a Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning. These are usually combined with track sessions that include speed, power and flexibility work. There are also rugby skills sessions included in the programme.  The Pais athletes are based at Meadowmill which is used as a satellite training centre for the Borders East Lothian Regional Academy.

The boys are working really hard while enjoying the competitive environment. It is already obvious to see the benefits gained from the rugby athletes on the programme. They are adapting quickly and benefitting from the specialist coaching input from the Regional academy coaching staff. One of the new young rugby Pais athletes commented, ‘This is definitely the fittest I have ever been, although it is hard work, it is also really enjoyable’.

The regional Academy fixtures are due to be played in August with game for the U16’s, U18’s and U20’s squad. All the Pais rugby athletes are part of the U16 or U18 squad and their hard pre-season training will definitely stand them in good stead for the upcoming fixtures.
