Saltire Success at British Teamgym Championships

The Senior Mixed team from Saltire competeted at the British Teamgym Championships 2017

Following qualification in March, the senior mixed team from Saltire Team Gymnastics competed at the British Teamgym Championships at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Saturday 29th July. Having qualified in first position from the Northern Qualifier, the team knew they were up against the strong teams of the south as they headed to the finals. After months of preparations, the team headed down to Liverpool with Saltire Head Coaches Tracey Brown and Sam Hendrikson.

The Championships, part of the British Gymnastics Championship Series which included the Championships for Acrobatics, Aerobics and Rhythmic as well as Teamgym, was held for a 3rd year at the Echo Arena which has now become the events home. With a huge build up to and buzz about the event, the pressure was on as gymnasts, officials and spectators came from across the UK for the ultimate Championships.

Starting on Tumble, the team from Saltire managed to secure a score of 14.100 opening with a run of double pike somersaults, a first for a Saltire team. Moving onto trampette, with three runs of double rotation skills – another first for a Saltire team – the gymnasts scored a respectable 14.550. With two solid performances out the way, the team were the final club to compete on floor and achieved an amazing 19.033 putting them well into medal contention.

Following the final performances from the clubs in the south, Saltire managed to secure the Bronze medal with a final score of 47.683.
