Showcase Spectacular

Gymnasts from around East Lothian show off their skills in annual showcase.

Showcase

On Saturday 19th March, enjoyleisure’s Musselburgh Sports Centre hosted over 400 gymnastics in an exciting and entertaining display as part of Musselburgh’s Riding of the Marches 2016 Sporting Programme for the 2016 East Lothian Gymnastics and Trampolining Showcase.

Gymnasts aged from aged 3 to 20+ entertained the crowds with an amazing display of variety of choreography and skills on both the floor and trampolines. The event kick started with a display from resident Two Foot Higher Trampoline Club, who wowed the audience with their high flying acrobatics display.

This was the 6th annual showcase in East Lothian, which brings together gymnasts from across the county to display their skills learned during their weekly coached sessions in both recreational classes run by enjoyleisure, Active Schools and the numerous local Clubs operating within the county.

Event organiser, enjoyleisure’s Gymnastics Development Coordinator Tracey Brown, commented,

We were delighted to welcome several newcomers to the event this year; Dunbar Active Schools Trampolining Classes and the Saltire Team Gymnastics Development Classes from Dunbar and West Barns; which highlights the amazing growth of the sport in the area. Family and friends in the large audience were rightfully proud, as the hard work and regular practice shone through.”

A competitive side to the day included the awarding of prizes for various awards. Following a difficult decision, the judging panel awarded the following prizes:

Best Choreography: Saltire Development Classes, West Barns and Dunbar

Best Costumes: Meadowbank Sprites

Most Energetic Routine: Two Foot Higher Trampoline Club

Best Use of Apparatus: Musselburgh Sports Centre Gymnastics

This year’s Showcase was one of the many events running in Musselburgh in the lead up to the 2016 Riding of the Marches Festival. Chair of the Sports Colin Taylor, commented,

It was an absolutely fantastic day; one which we were delighted to support as part of the Riding of the Marches sporting programme. There was an abundance of talent on show, and it was clear to see the participant’s enthusiasm and enjoyment of their sport. A massive “well done” to all of the gymnasts and their coaches for all their hard work; and to those who organised this event - it was a huge success.”
