Tennis on the Road a smashing success

Judy Murray returns to Longniddry Tennis Club to bring tennis to a new generation.

Tennis on the Road at Longniddry

Longniddry Tennis Club was thrilled to have a return visit from Judy Murray. Judy is part of the 'Tennis on the Road' team which aims to bring tennis to a whole new generation of kids. This team helped by club volunteers and Stuart Brown , the East Lothian Tennis Development officer, ran a 'Set4tennis' session for 25 kids and their parents carers at the Longniddry courts on Saturday 22nd November and also held sessions at the local primary on Thursday20th November . The sessions were great fun and  involved simple games and activities using everyday household objects that cost nothing to set up and that help develop the vital ABCs of sport – agility, balance and co-ordination. Feedback from the parents has been really positive - 'Fantastic to have Judy Murray and the Tennis on the Road team here! What a fab session!' 'Great afternoon of tennis, now have very inspired kids'. What is even more exciting is that 'Tennis on the Road' are willing to return so watch this space.

set4tennisLongniddry Tennis club has just heard that it has been successful in being awarded a Viridor  Credits grant for refurbishing the courts subject to a few conditions being met. This means the club now has all the money in place for the refurbishment and is hoping this can be completed in the early part of 2015. Also, 2 of our younger adult members have been studying for their coaching awards. Euan Cameron has just passed his level 2 award and Adam Vince will finish his level 1 award this weekend. This will mean the club can now start to put on a more structured coaching programme. If you are interested in playing tennis, weather permitting, we are still playing on a Sunday at 10:00 am  so please come along! More information on the club can be found http://longniddrytennis.weebly.com/ or follow us on facebook or twitter.
