World Record for Lyle

From Dunbar to Dubai, Team East Lothian's Maria Lyle breaks T35 200m World Record

Maria Lyle IPC

Competing at the IPC Athletics Grand Prix in Dubai with a select of British Athletics' top paralympians, Dunbar Grammar school pupil Maria Lyle has broken her own world record in the T35 200m. The young teenager became a sprint superstar last year when she eclipsed the official 100m and 200m world records in the T35 category (ambulant athletes with cerebral palsy), Lyle then went on to secure two European titles at the IPC Athletics European Championships in August 2014 in Swansea.

Lyle who trains regularly at the East Lothian Athletics Arena (Meadowmill Sports Centre), is also a member of Team East Lothian AC. Competing at the Dubai Grand Prix, a key event in the paralmypic calendar, Lyle came close to her own world record in the 100m when she claimed victory in her race earlier on this week, crossing the line in 14.92.

Competing in the T35 200m, Lyle powered to victory in a new WORLD RECORD time of 30.53 - shaving almost 0.2seconds off her previous record. Lyle will compete in further events at this year's IPC Athletics Grand Prix, and her progress this early on in the season augurs well for the IPC Athletics World Championships to be held in Doha in October this year!

Although Maria Lyle lives and trains in East Lothian, she works with coach Tabo Huntley based in Manachester and makes regular trips to Manchester with her family. A huge credit to Maria on her World Record performance along with her coach Tabo and the tireless support of parents Susan and Raymond!
