In September 2018 Fern Mitchell a local community coach and chaire of the North Berwick Community Sports Hub will be climbing Kilimanjaro in aid of charity. This will not only be a physical but a mental challenge as Kilimanjaro is the highest free standing mountain in the world. Fern will be completing this trek as part of a 12 man team in order to raise vital funds for Children 1st. The Children 1st vision is to ensure that children across the whole of Scotland are kept happy, safe, secure and healthy. Fern aim's to increase vital funds so that they can continue to do the amazing work imrpoving the lives of children across Scotland.

Throughout the course of six days Fern will endure a 90 Kilometre trek through the rainforest, marsh and climb the Barranco wall before descending back down. During the trek there are five stages of vegetation Arable land (800-1800 KM), Lush Forest (1800-2800 KM), Heather and Moorland (2800-4000 KM), Alpine Desert (4000-5000 KM) and last but by no means least Artic (Above 5000 KM).

Of the adventure in front of her Fern Said:

I'm very excited to be involved in 'children 1st's' first ever trek to Kilimanjaro and looking forward to pushing myself to my limits as well as striving to hit my fundraising target! I love coaching and working with young people and it is fantastic to be able to now raise funds for an organisation who is committed to improving the lives of young people across Scotland

A remarkable challenge by anyone's standards. We wish you luck Fern and will be right behind you.
