A Year In The Life Of ....

Hi there, I'm here to discuss more about "a year in the life of a runner" - I'll be recapping the month of August.

August was a really busy month for me, with 5 races and a training camp - as well as going back to school! On the whole, my races went well: one of my favourite races was a 3000m in a Grangemouth Open Graded race - I managed to take 20 seconds off my PB so I was really happy! The race wasn't without its mishaps, however - the event was running late due to rain and I had warmed up too early, so I had to try and keep calm and retain my energy- this was difficult as I wanted to retain energy but not become too cold. This is a lesson that I can take away from this race - if I am in this situation again I know that I will be okay and I will know what to do. Personally, I generally always warm up too early so this is something I need to address!

Other than this 3000m, I managed to pick up another couple of national medals - gold in the U20W 5000m and bronze in the U20W 1500m. Alongside this, I managed to get a couple of 1500m PBs. My last race was an 800m at a Meadowmill Open Graded competition - this unfortunately went badly due to 40mph winds!! I had been hoping for a PB but in the wind I definitely struggled and came away with a time just under 6 seconds slower than my PB - not the best race to finish on but these things happen!

Just before my 5000m, we had a barbecue/games/fun races night at Meadowmill for the club. The night was very enjoyable, with various activities such as caber tossing and atlas stones!

Just after the two national championships, I went to a training camp in Birmingham for a few days - this camp is run by London Marathon and sponsored by New Balance - we had lots of free gifts from New Balance, which was amazing. There was also lots of guest speakers and elite athletes and coaches which was incredible! I gained lots of knowledge and information and the training was really enjoyable - some of it was pretty tough!

Just before the camp, I went back to school and so I missed a week of school for the camp. I managed to catch up and my teachers helped to give me notes etc. which was really good of them. I'm currently on my end of season break and will be getting back to cross country training soon!
