Another fantastic achievement for a local Hero

Graeme Maguire slides one into the trophy cabinet after years of hard work.

Graeme Maguire

Graeme a long standing supporter of curling in Haddington and across Scotland was recently awarded the Grass Roots Coach of the year award for his significant work trying to get people of all ages into the sport of Curling. A Royal Caledonian Curling Club Level 1 qualified coach he coached over 40 sessions, including 10 Try Curling groups and seven in-school Wellness Days last season. The latter being particularly well received by schools, with one school teacher saying, “the children had a great time at curling”. Known for his trademark fancy trousers, Graeme is a warm, friendly character who welcomes newcomers onto the ice with encouragement and humour.

In East Lothian Graeme has been a constant supporter of the Haddington Community Sport Hub and Curling across East Lothian. It is not always the easiest job, with the closest indoor rink at Murrayfield, which means lots of travel but Graeme continues to work tirelessly with East Lothian clubs to ensure the strong tradition of Curling in East Lothian is upheld.

At Active East Lothian we are proud to have people like this in our community driving sport forward. Thanks Graeme. It is people like you that make sport happen. The award above goes a small way to celebrating the work you do however will never reflect fully the commitment you have to getting people to enjoy the sport you love. For that once again we say Thanks. See you on the rink.
