Duo win U17 European Bronze in Prague

Rachel Cameron from Musselburgh and Alastair Campbell from Dunbar were part of an eight strong Scottish team who won a bronze medal at the European U17 Team Championships held recently in Prague.

Scotland young badminton stars got their European U17 Championships campaign off to a perfect start with a fine 4 – 1 win over Slovakia.

The following day the inspired Scottish team had a second win with a dominant 5 – 0 showing over Austria and continued their unbeaten record with a comfortable win over Croatia 4 – 1 to send them top of group 6.

With three group wins out of three – winning 12 individual matches and losing just three, the young Scots took on higher ranked France for a place in the semi-finals.

Rachel Andrew (Edinburgh) and Adam Pringle (Giffnock) got them off to a strong start followed by wins in men and women’s singles to clinch the all-important third match and secure Scotland with a medal.

With top seeds Denmark having overcome Germany 3 – 0 earlier in the day this set up a clash with Scotland to decide who would play for Gold on Saturday.

Scotland had made the Danes work for every point but they proved too strong going down

3 – 0 however the Scots should all be very proud of a very well deserved bronze medal.

The following day Scotland turned their attention to the Individual event where Rachel Sugden (Alexandria) reached the quarterfinals of the women’s singles while Adam Pringle and Rachel Andrew excelled in the mixed doubles to secure their second bronze medal.
