British Championships success for Saltire

Saltire senior team storm the competition once again

Saltire British Championships 2018

The senior mixed team from Saltire Team Gymnastics attended the British Teamgym Championships this weekend at Northumbria University in Newcastle. The two-day event saw the Teamgym Championships on the Saturday and the Teamgym Challenge on the Sunday.

The gymnasts from Saltire were joined by gymnasts from Irvine Bay Gymnastics Club, located in Irvine on the West Coast of Scotland. In the run up to the competition season both clubs were lacking in numbers to enter teams into the Championships and decided to combine the gymnasts to create one senior mixed team which competed under Saltire’s name with the nickname “Saltire Bay”. The opportunity to train together and work as a team has benefited both clubs as they achieved the qualification score to attend the British Championships back at a qualification event in March.

On the day, the team managed to perform well on all three pieces of apparatus despite a few injuries and last minute changes to their routines. Up against the strong teams of the South for the second year, the team managed to secure respectable scores for each performance. Floor – 14.150, Trampette – 15.450 and Tumble – 13.200. Their tumble performance was enough to overtake the strong team from Reddam Gymnastics who scores 15.000. The final score for Saltire was 42.800 which won them the bronze medal for the second year in a row.

Both clubs will be looking to make an impression next year and to push into the top two positions which have been held by teams from Bracknell Gymnastics Club and Reddam Gymnastics Club for the last few years.

Well done to all!
