With 7 weeks until the British Paralympic Trials, Stephen Clegg (20) was in fine form at the weekend at the Swim Ulster International/ Dave McCullagh Meet in Bangor, Northern Ireland. Stephen competes in the S12 category and is a member of Tranent Swimming Club, training full time with Bruce Halloran at East Lothian Swim Team (ELST).

Stephen competed in 4 events, swimming personal best times in 3 of them.

In the 100m Free, Stephen swam a personal best time of 54.87s, which was also a British record. That swim earned Stephen a bronze medal, a great start to the weekend.

The 50m Free was also a personal best swim, where Stephen finished in a time of 25.79s. Stephen was a little of his best in the 400m free, finishing in a time of 4.24.59.

Stephen had a great swim in his 100m Back, finishing in a personal best time of 1.02.79 and winning a silver medal.

Stephen will be competing in the same events at the Paralympic Trials in April, with the main target the 100m Back and these performances will give Stephen great confidence in the run up to this event.

ELST Head Coach Bruce Halloran commented on Stephen’s performance: “Stephen has worked incredibly hard over the last few months to recover from injury and has put himself back into contention to perform extremely well at trials in April. This was an important test for us in our preparation and Stephen stepped up with some big performances. It is now back to the pool for the next 7 weeks before heading to Glasgow for trials.”
