Stephen

Stephen Clegg was this week named as 1 of 4 Scots to make the ParalympicGB team for Rio.

The 21 year old is a member of Tranent Amateur Swimming Club, training full time with East Lothian Swim Team under Head Coach Bruce Halloran.

Stephen has been working exceptionally hard over the last few years and the results were beginning to show over the last few months. Stephen’s personal best times have improved considerably and breaking numerous British records in the S12 category whilst doing so.

Coach Bruce Halloran was delighted by the news and believes it is well deserved after all the hard work Stephen has put into training throughout the past year.

After the trials, Bruce commented “In terms of training, my focus is building consistency with Stephen. He’s had a long time out of the pool so we’re working around making sure he’s doing things properly in the pool and I must give credit to him, he’s doing everything that’s been asked of him, by myself, by others on the swim team, the Institute and he’s getting results.”

The focus now is to return to the pool and get ready for Rio.

The local swimming clubs were quick to respond to the news and show their support for the East Lothian Swim Team captain. We look forward to seeing him compete in Rio!!
