East Lothian PAiS Golfers v Loretto

at Musselburgh Old Course

2018 Golf Pais Loretto Annabel

Our PAiS Golfers finished their Winter Coaching practice programme with a friendly scratch match play against Loretto Academy on Monday 23rd April.

Loretto Academy has kindly been supporting our PAiS golfers throughout the winter months so as to deliver a 16 week block of practice session including some computer analysis with Loretto’s PGA Pro Scott Grieve.  Weekly skills challenges were set up by Kate Green in an attempt to keep the players enjoying the primarily chipping practice.  We also had visitors drop by to set up their own practice challenges for the group including Catriona Matthew, Lauren Lee, Lesley Nicholson and even Sport Development’s own Ed Hendrikson!

As Loretto Academy is on the doorstep of Scotland’s Oldest Playing Golf Course in the world we thought what better menu for our winter finale than at Musselburgh Old Course.

Both teams fields 9 player who competed over in 18 holes after school in scratch match play.

We received a warm welcome from Musselburgh Golf Course’s starter unfortunately the weather was not so warm!

All 9 matches headed out by 5pm while staff and parents were grateful that by the time we got the last pair out the first pair was back on the first tee hence our services were required at all times on the first tee and we had to remain next to the warm Starter’s pavilion … and hot chocolate!

Both sides were well matched and all games were close some closer than the final score reflected.

Valdemar Hundeboll brought home East Lothian’s biggest win against Archie Wyatt winning 6 & 5.

Lewis Hannah also secured a big win finishing 5 & 4 against Mikey Shepherd.

Aaron Hall won down the 18th and finishing 1 up against Yannick Artigolle.

Cameron Gallagher also battled down the 18th and finished all square again Lou Tan.

Daniel Gaines, Jack Noon and James Morgan all lost narrowly to Sebastian Steeb, Jan Voltas Moreno and Harry Austin respectively.

Cameron Spencer was unfortunately ill so Jamie Gallagher accepted a late call to join the team and playing scratch again a player 5 shots better lost to Timothy Chan.

Annabel Hosie unfortunately had to withdraw after 9 due to injury so lost to Greg McCaffer.

Final Score Loretto 5.5 V East Lothian 3.5

It was a great way to spend a breezy April evening and all the players enjoyed the opportunity to play the team match play format.

Thanks to Loretto Academy and their PGA Professional staff for their support with the Performance Athletes in Schools (PAiS) golfers over the winter months.
