East Lothian Rugby Players Reaching for the Top

Some of our local grown talent is reaching the highest level of the game with players representing Scotland U20’s, Scotland 7’s and a player recently selected to the Scotland National Senior Squad

It is great to see that some of best young rugby talent in East Lothian is reaching the top end of the player pathway created for rugby players in Scotland. Everyone at North Berwick HS and North Berwick RFC will be very proud that Lewis Carmichael was recently selected for the Scotland National squad to tour North America in the summer. He has performed very well for Edinburgh Rugby this season and has been rewarded for his hard work and strong performances. Lewis was a member of the Pais rugby programme and didn’t get selected for Regional Rugby at U16. He continued to work hard and got an opportunity to play for Scotland U18’s and U20’s before progressing onto the professional ranks with Edinburgh Rugby.

There are also two players from East Lothian travelling to the south of France for the U20 World Championships. Cammy Hutchison has recovered from some long term injuries to be selected after representing Scotland U20’s last season as well. He is also another North Berwick product that has come through the Pais programme and East Lothian Falcons. Rory Darge is still U18 and has represented Scotland U18’s and Scotland U20’s this season. He was part of a Successful Scotland U18 team that was unbeaten at the U18 Six Nations Championships in April down in England. He has only recently left East Lothian and the Pais programme to take up a place with the Borders East Lothian Academy Regional Academy. Rory, again, is a product of North Berwick. Last but not least is Harvey Elms who has represented Scotland 7s in the World series this season. Harvey is a great story of perseverance and following his passion of playing rugby at a high level. He didn’t play regional rugby at school age although he played for East Lothian Falcons. He has thrived after school by working hard and enjoying his club rugby up at Currie RFC. His high performance levels have got him noticed and he has taken his chances with both hands.

It is great to see these players coming through the system and we wish them all the best for their upcoming challenges. I’m sure the rugby community of East Lothian and everyone in North Berwick especially, will be keeping a keen eye on the various rugby events that they are involved in over the next few weeks.
