East Lothian Squads take on Watsonians

Sunday 11th November, the East Lothian Hockey Development squads and Pais players travelled to Edinburgh to play in a day's tournament of hockey. The day was arranged with Watsonians to give our squads a chance to play together in teams. The morning kicked off with an U10 and and U12 mixed round robin tournament played across Watson's two pitches. I am sure the kids will remember just how many goals were scored... there were a lot! Great fun and a super morning of hockey.

Next up our older players - U12s and U14s played in some girls and boys 11 aside games, 11 aside is a first for many of our players at this age and what an experience for them all. The standard of hockey was great, our players did East Lothian very proud, wins and draws for each team. Fantastic to see the squad players come together and play as a team in competitive environment but with the spirit of festival hockey.

We have had some lovely feedback not just from parents and relatives watching, but also from the Head Coach at Watsonians, George Thornton, "I had loads of great feedback from parents, coaches and players - and it was an invaluable development opportunity, especially the 11-a-side matches. A lot of people said what a nice bunch of kids and coaches you have … everyone played in the right spirit for Festival hockey.'

Well done to all players who took part and we look forward to hosting Watsonians back at Meadowmill in the Spring time.

Next Squad match is Friday 7th December at Loretto for our P6 and P7 girls in the U12 squad.
