The sun was shining for the first PTS Girls Football event!!

The first PTS girls Football event of its kind ran on Monday 6th March in Musselburgh in a spring like day. Despite having a wee mix up with pitches it went ahead with enthusiasm and smiles from all. The atmosphere was electric with spectators cheering on their teams and parents came out to support and cheer on their sides!

Five school teams turned out for the first PTS Girls football event which was amazing to see. Schools were MacMerry, Wallyford, Campie, Burgh and Pinkie brought 2 teams. We had 3 matches playing at a time across the pitch with 10 minutes one way and they had 5 minutes to re-set for the next set of matches so all teams played all games! All the girls played brilliant football and we even had a Delia from Pinkie scoring a goal after only one training session, to say her teacher was proud would be an understatement!

The score lines were high with most of the girls rotating the goalie around and all taking a shot of being in goals. Some hard shots were taken and deflected and the girls just took it in their stride (I am not sure I would have done the same). All of the teams showed sportsmanship and camaraderie throughout.

There were no official referees so the girls just self-officiated with staff/coaches on the side line for help. This worked on an honesty policy which the girls excelled at and everyone was really proud how they all worked together.

The next round of PTS Girls Football will hopefully be in Tranent in the near future. Please keep up to date with fixtures by “liking” Active Schools Musselburgh. We aim to have the next Musselburgh fixtures after the Easter holidays so stay tuned.
