Fuelling Up

Fueling up for success on the Court, Track, Field, Pitch or in the pool.      

We were treated to a fantastic presentation from Hibs FC Nutritionist Paola Rodriguez Giustiniani, delivered in the comfort of Meadowmill Bowling Club, by Tranent.

The presentation was very well attended by both athletes and parents from our PAiS programme in East Lothian. We were treated to a slide presentation which included details on what the basic requirements are to sustain growth and development and meet our energy needs, depending on our gender and age. It was evident to us that there is a huge importance on the foods we take in from each food group and what that means for our bodies. 

The significance of what we are putting into our bodies and what we are expecting to get out of our bodies was paramount. Our bodies need a balanced diet with carbohydrates, protein, fat, vitamins and minerals as well as ensuring we are properly hydrated before, during and after training and competing.

There were also a number of fabulous recipe ideas for all the family to try at home. Following on from this, we are hoping to discuss the possibility of Paola running some cooking classes for athletes to learn how to make a variety of well balanced meals and treats if there is interest from any of the PAiS squads.
