Gymnasts Perform at European Championships

Caitlin O’Brien and Fraser McLeod compete as part of Team GB.

European Championships

Two local gymnasts, Caitlin O’Brien (City of Edinburgh Trampoline Club) and Fraser McLeod (Two Foot Higher), recently represented GB at the European Trampolining, DMT and Tumbling Championships which took place in Baku, Azerbaijan.

Caitlin and team

Caitlin competed in the senior women’s category in DMT and performed well in qualification to secure a score of 66.700 and finished in 5th place. Unfortunately for Caitlin, although finishing 5th with the top eight qualifying for the finals, only two gymnasts from each nation are allowed to progress, meaning Caitlin was beaten to the final by her GB teammates Kirsty Way and Ruth Shevelan who finished ahead in qualification. In the team competition, along wither her teammates Ruth, Kirsty and Phoebe Williams (pictured right), Caitlin managed to qualify for the finals in first place. In the final, the girls performed some solid routines and secured the silver medal with a score of 102.300.

Fraser and team

Fraser, who also competed in DMT but in the junior men’s category, qualified for finals in 7th place with a score of 69.200. In the final Fraser managed to finish in an impressive 5th place with a score of 66.600.

As a delegation, the competition was a success across the board with a number of medals won in all three disciplines. A full list of results can be found here.

Well done to Fraser and Caitlin!
