Another one of our Volunteer Spotlight Awards has been presented, this time to local community Stalwart Sally Hetherington from North Berwick based Netball Club, the BassRocketeers. As well as being a keen netball player, she is also an active member of the North Berwick Community Sports Hub and has worked tirelessly to form links with Active Schools to promote the Netball club as much as possible.

By delivering weekly afterschool netball sessions within the Primary schools, many children have moved onto the Netball club to develop their skills even further. On top of this, in January 2016 Sally managed to link with North Berwick High School to get them involved with the Netball Club too, so currently an average of 20 kdis per week playing Netball who wouldn’t otherwise be able to.

As Sally volunteers her time these sessions run at no cost to the children breaking down barriers to participation.

Sally has also led the Law PS girls Netball team to victory in the annual East Lothian Championships this year and taken the High School girls to participate in the Scottish Schools Cup.

Active Schools Coordinator for North Berwick, Laurie Daborn was quoted as saying “Sally has been a real driving force putting Netball on the map in East Lothian, and without he Netball wouldn’t be as successful around here”.
