Regional P7 Tag Tournament A Great Success

The Regional P7 Tag Rugby Tournament took place recently at Meadowmill with over 350 pupils and nearly 40 primary school teams taking part

Tag rugby

The Regional P7 Tag Rugby Tournament took place recently at Meadowmill with 18 girls teams and 21 boys teams entered. This was the second year that the girls and boys participated in separate competitions and it was fantastic to see so many children down taking part in the event. The tag games were played in 7-a-side teams for both the boys and girls tournaments. There were some excellent games in the girls competition with some very exciting and closely contested games. The standards throughout were really good and this is a credit to the work of the rugby DO’s and schools and the opportunities they give the children to play and train. The boys event also had some very closely contested groups with semi-finalists in some cases being decided by number of tries scored during the group stages. An important ingredient for a successful event is the weather which was pretty decent on the day considering the event had to be rescheduled from the initial September date.

The games were contested in great spirit and the traditional ‘Fair Play Award’ was closely contested. In the end it was the girls from St Mary’s Primary and the boys from Stoneyhill Primary that won the award in their respective competitions. The behaviour, respect and sportsmanship was great to see on the day. After closely contested semi finals, Gullane Primary ran out eventual winners of the boys tournament, beating Yester Primary in the final. The girls event was won by Windygoul Primary who had to overcome some stiff competition to run out eventual winners.
