Spotlight Volunteer Win for Catriona!

Catriona Awarded For All Her Hard Work

Catriona Awarded For All Her Hard Work

We are delighted to announce that Catriona McPheat from Dunbar and a valued member of Team East Lothian – not only as a successful sprinter in her own right, but also a valued member of the coaching team – has won an East Lothian Council Spotlight Award for Volunteering.

Catriona has been volunteering to work with youngsters in the Dunbar area for around 3 years and has been an amazing role model for many, many young people. Having worked with her for some time, I can honestly say that there are a number of children who have continued with their athletics career because of the encouragement she has given them to succeed where they didn’t think they ever could.  She has volunteered for Run, Jump and Throw classes, Dunbar Junior Athletics Club and Team East Lothian.  Last year she also completed her training and qualified as an Assistant Athletics Coach – hopefully just the start of a long and happy coaching career!

Well Done Catriona!

I began volunteering at Dunbar Running Club 3 years ago.  Since then I have been given the opportunity to help at Team East Lothian AC with the Run, Jump, Throw and progress through the coach education programme to gain my level one coaching qualification.

I have found volunteering to be a massively rewarding experience.  I thoroughly enjoy being able to give back to my community and help other young people discover and develop a passion for athletics.  It is inspiring to watch them grow and succeed as both athletes and people.

I am very grateful to have been given the Spotlight Award and I would like to thank the clubs, coached and athletes who I have had the pleasure of volunteering with.
