Warm welcome at Pinehurst

10 East Lothian Junior golfers enjoy some Carolina blue in February

2018 Golf Pinehurst team 2

10 Junior boys from clubs in the East Lothian Junior Golf League kicked of their 2018 golf season over the February break by taking a trip of a lifetime to Pinehurst, North Carolina.

Pinehurst is the St. Andrews of American which has 9 courses including Pinehurst number 2 which hosts the US Open.

The team were selected based on their performances in League events in 2017 and were accompanied by Dave Warran (Secretary of the East Lothian Junior Golf League) and Ric Foulner (Junior Convenor of Tantallon Golf Club). This trip could not have happened without the dedication of these two local golfers who not only volunteered their time but pulled together all the required funding and sponsorship.

Dave and Ric also took time while they were out there to promote Scotland’s Golf Coast. Their efforts included giving out brochures, flying the Golf Coast Banner at all the venues they played, giving video interviews to the media staff at Pinehurst, and having articles printed in the local press.

The trip was primarily sponsored by US Kids Golf in memory of Duncan McLean of Gullane Golf Club.

Further sponsorship was also provided by Golf East Lothian, Cablecom, and Hotdocs.

Martyn Huish the North Berwick Professional, supported by sourcing golf bags and clothing at heavily discounted prices for top quality products from Titleist and others.

Dave Warren said “Without all of you, this trip would not have happened. As we plan another trip in February 2019, with different players, both Boys and Girls perhaps, any future assistance with funding from yourselves or your other business contacts would be much appreciated”.
