Windygoul and Loretto crowned ELPSS Champions!

Swimmers excel in the event's 41st year

Windygoul

On Friday 9th February, the finalists came together to compete in the East Lothian Primary School Swimming Gala.

The heats were held back in January, where 10 large schools and 10 small schools competed for a place in the finals and a chance to win points for their school.

The swimmers competed in freestyle, backcrawl and breaststroke individual races, before the relay events completed the morning of swimming.

Our special guest Ken Baird, presented the winners with their awards. Ken started this event in 1977 and it was great to know the event has been successfully running for 41 years! Ken’s last year organising the event was in 1985, where he was presented with a medal for his services to school swimming.

The winner of each race was presented with an award before we moved onto the school trophies.

Small School champions – Loretto 29 points

The Merit Trophy was presented to Gabriella Santos (Stoneyhill) for winning both her events and bettering her times by the largest amount from the heats.

Congratulations to all of the swimmers that competed today and showed excellent team spirit and a huge thank you to all the parents and officials that volunteered to support the event!
