East Lothian S1 Rugby 10’s Tournament a big success

Young local rugby talent on display at the S1 rugby 10's tournament held at Meadowmill

S1 10s rugby

The first East Lothian S1 10’s tournament was held at Meadowmill on Friday 7th November. The event was well supported by local schools and included a visiting team from Midlothian, Lasswade High School. There was some very exciting rugby on the day and all the players involved really got stuck in and seemed to have a great time. With the players only having been playing high school rugby for a few months, it was excellent to see the progress they have made since playing mini  rugby only a few months ago. The rugby was hard with strong defending a characteristic that was prevalent throughout.

The highlight of the day was the tough games between Lasswade HS, North Berwick HS and Dunbar Grammar. These were all very closely contested games with North Berwick ending up as the only unbeaten team in the Round Robin format. They narrowly beat Lasswade and Dunbar to become the first winners of the East Lothian S1 10’s tournament. The North Berwick team played an open running brand of rugby that stretched the defence and they scored some lovely tries.

This will hopefully become an annual event after the success of Friday and could even include some Edinburgh based schools in the future. Thank you to all the schools that supported the event.
