Preston Lodge win county athletics

Preston Lodge HS win silverware and four records fall at East Lothian Schools Athletics

County Sports 2015

It was Preston Lodge High School who put an end to North Berwick High School’s long-standing winning streak at the East Lothian Schools Athletics, “County Sports.” It was a highly competitive inter school competition, with just a mere 35 points separating the top four positions highlighting the hard work of the pupils and school PE departments in the last few months.

The inter-school competition saw all six county secondary schools toe to the line against each other, as around 350 pupils from across all six year groups took part at the event on Thursday 18 June at the East Lothian Athletics Arena, Meadowmill. Victors, Preston Lodge, tallied up 306 points across a range of track and field events on the day. It was Dunbar Grammar School who chased hard for second (287 points), with defending champions North Berwick (283 points) for third and Musselburgh Grammar in fourth (271 points) equally trying to lay claim to the county title. Ross High School were fifth and Knox Academy sixth, completing the line up in what was an excellent showdown of the county’s athletic prowess.

Despite the unfavourable conditions, with cool and blustery weather, there were still four county school records broken at Meadowmill on the day. Jack Gillon (Musselburgh) set a new S2 boys record of 40.62s in the 300m and in the same age-group, Filip Cimoszko (Knox) threw a new discus record of 29.80m. Imogen Wilson (Dunbar) had a fine win and a new new record of 43.21 in the Senior Girls 300m, in what was the standout performance of the day. Fellow Dunbar pupil, Jamie Chapman leaped to an equally impressive 6.10m for a new record in the senior Boys long jump.
