Tuesday 22nd December 2020 Update
Following the First Ministers announcements on Saturday 19th December, and the National mainland return to Tier 4, East Lothian Active Schools has postponed the return of Outdoor Activity until after a review on Wednesday 20th January.
This decision covers all East Lothian Active Schools activity.
With a staggered return to schools in the New Year, and uncertainty over what Tier we will be living under in January, we thought it best to provide some clarity on our plans.
Our team will be working to support schools in their return to learning after the Festive Holidays.
We will also be planning for a return to activity in February, assuming we have reverted to Tier 3 or lower by then.
We know this will be disappointing, we are disappointed too.
We will be working hard to return our outdoor activities, as well as planning for a return to indoor activities as soon as we can.
We wish you all a fun and safe Christmas and New Year.
Senior Active Schools Co-ordinator
To all parents, carers and friends of Prestonpans Active Schools
Active Schools have been planning for a gradual and safe return to sport and physical activity. There are lots of challenges to overcome and we want to ensure we have all the essential safety measures in place to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for our participants, volunteers, coaches and all involved in bringing activities back to the Prestonpans school area.
As we learn to manage new procedures, we’ll be taking everything one step at a time, and we may be able to reintroduce a very limited number of activities over the next few weeks and months. For now, any activities that take place will have a limited capacity and will be outdoors only at Secondary Schools (Preston Lodge High School) or Community and EnjoyLeisure sites.
What we can safely manage at each stage of recovery will depend on guidance from National Governing Bodies, access to facilities, and availability of coaches and volunteers. As we progress through the weeks and months ahead, we will continue to monitor the latest guidance and advice from the Scottish Government, SportScotland and National Governing Bodies for each sport and activity.
For the time-being, activities will be advertised as and when they become available, rather than as a whole activity timetable.
All activities will be booked online using our Active Schools Booking Page, no paper booking forms, cash or cheques will be accepted for now. Please contact me directly if you are unable to access our online booking page when booking becomes available.
For further information on what to expect when returning to activities, please click here.
Now more than ever, we are relying on willing volunteers to deliver or support a range of sports and activities and help us to provide more opportunities in the local community for children and young people to adopt active, healthy lifestyles. If you are interested in learning more about volunteering with Active Schools, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Thank you for your continued support, patience and understanding during what has been a challenging time for all. I’ll look forward to sharing more news and information with you very soon about activities in Prestonpans, Longniddry, Cockenzie & Port Seton.
NEW Active Schools Co-ordinator
As you may already know, Paul Lavery has moved on to new employment, I am sure you will join me in thanking him for all his hard work, and wishing him well in his new role.
We have been busy recruiting a replacement over the summer holidays.
I am please to let you know that Stewart Sands has literally just started as the new Active Schools Co-ordinator for Aberlady PS, Cockenzie PS, Gullane PS, Longniddry PS, Preston Tower PS & St Gabriels PS.
As Stewart has just started, we won't be able to provide the Active Schools programme you are used to straight away.
He is currently meeting lots of school staff, recruiting previous and new volunteers and getting to know the local clubs.
We hope to have a programme up and running after the October break.
Should he be able to provide a programme before then, he will of course let you know through normal channels.
I know the delay will be frustrating, but unfortunately it is unavoidable. I am sure things will return to normal as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
