Boys hockey at North Berwick High

Over 20 boys turn out for the first session of lunchtime boys hockey at North Berwick High...

North Berwick Hockey

At last, many hockey boys parents will say! North Berwick boys hockey was pushed into action earlier this month with the launch of a lunchtime club for hockey fanatic boys. New to the school, maths teacher Craig Lawson approached the Hockey Devlopment Officer in the summer, keen to start up boys hockey having spent a placement at Ross High where he witnessed a very successful launch of the sport for the boys in the school. With the backing of Active Schools and the PE Department at NB High School, Mr Lawson along with the volunteering and support from sixth year pupil Hamish Walker, who is a qualified UKCC Level One coach and coaches U14s and U12s at Gullane Hockey club, they started lunchtime hockey for boys in years S1 - S3. An overwhelming number of over 20 boys have taken part in this newly formed hockey lunch club for boys. Itske Hoofman, an experienced 4th year player joined the coaching team in the second week, thank you Itske, great to see younger years getting involved in coaching within the school. Boys with experience and boys having only done a festival taster in P6, the atmosphere and standard of play was great. A huge well done to Mr Lawson and Hamish Walker and Itske Hoofman....and I hear a match against Ross High is being scheduled as we speak. Well done and let's hope this is the start of boys hockey at North Berwick High.
