Knox Academy Student wins Volunteering Spotlight Award

S6 Pupil at Knox Academy, Andrew McKnight has won our latest Volunteer Spotlight Award for his efforts in his community!

Our latest Spotlight award winner is S6 Knox Academy pupil, Andrew McKnight! Andrew received his award form Head Teacher Lauren Rodger.

 

Andrew is a committed, passionate and compassionate young leader who is part of the Sports Leadership Team as well as being one of Knox Academy’s Young Ambassadors.  His work ethic based around his elite involvement in swimming where he formally swam 20+Hrs per week.  While he is no longer swimming this often in a week, he has turned his hand to coaching others in the sport and is focussed on making the best of himself and those he coaches.

Andrew is aspiring to be the best coach he can be and recently completed his UKCC Level 2 Swim Coaching Qualification as well as being Lifeguard Trained. He has also picked up valuable life skills through school by completing his Higher PE, Community Sports Leaders Award and receiving training as part of his YA role in the school

Andrew coaches 8hrs a week with ‘Elite Squad’ at Haddington & District Amateur Swimming Club. When the Head Coach was off on compassionate leave this year, Andrew stepped up to the mark and even led training.

 
Not one to have any sort of time off, Andrew has also volunteered up to 7 hours a day during his school holidays for the past 2 years to work with EL Special Needs Playscheme. In this role he provides exciting, social and educational activities children with a wide range of special needs.


Sport and Physical Coordinator for Knox Academy, Stevie Wands said “Andrew leads by example, is someone that consistently aims to develop himself and his volunteering is of the highest order. He fully deserves a Spotlight Award to highlight the effort and time he puts in to the local community”
