U15 SCOTTISH SCHOOLS AGE GROUP SINGLES TITLES
East Lothian young badminton players enjoyed a golden few days when both Longniddry’s Eloise Morris and Ewan Mathieson (Aberlady) both won the U15 Scottish Schools Age Group Singles at Ravenscraig Sports Centre, Motherwell.
The 14 year old Preston Lodge pupil Eloise Morris claimed the girl’s singles title by overcoming Linsey Young from Kelso High while Longniddry’s Sarah Brogan (George Heriots) finished 4th and Laura Moos (Preston Lodge) in 5th place.
In the boys singles Ewan Mathieson (Stewarts Melville) defeated Lorne Russell from Portobello High at the final stages to claim the title while Preston Lodge pupil James Morgan finished in 6th place.
The same week end U15 Junior Internationalist Shona Whillans travelled south to compete in the U15 Gold Circuit Tournament in Leigh, Lancashire where she claimed a creditable bronze and
silver medal. In the mixed doubles Shona teamed up with regular partner Glen Lewington (Edinburgh) where they won bronze then took one step further reaching the final of the girl’s doubles with partner Abigail Holden (Yorkshire) where they just lost out at the final stage to Sian Kelly (England) and Gean Sou Mo (Wales) to take a creditable silver medal.
Haddington’s former Junior International player Megan Richardson reached two finals in her first senior tournament this season in ladies and mixed doubles in the recent West Open Championships at the Cockburn Centre, Glasgow. Megan teamed up with new partner 15 year old Holly Newell where they combined well to reach the final and very unlucky to just lose out on their first title in a close 3 set match against Emma Cook (Mauchline) and Toni Woods (Falkirk). Megan reached her second final in the mixed doubles with Lanarkshire’s Keith Turnbull but once again just lost out at the final hurdle to Ben Torrance (Prestwick) and Emma Cook.
