Haddington Golf course have gone through a small transformation ready for the new summer season
With a new PGA professional Scott Thomson and new look pro shop Haddington Golf club is set for a great start to the new season. Scott comes with a wealth of experience and a real focus on ensuring Haddington Golf Club sits at the centre of the community. We caught up with Scott who gave us a quick snapshot of his journey to get to HGC.
I have been fortunate to work under some extremely knowledgable PGA Professionals in various parts of the world. I completed my PGA training under Craig Donnelly at Balbirnie Park GC in Fife. After a short time playing tournament golf and keen to travel, I was offered my first full time teaching positon with John Jacob’s Golf Schools in Hong Kong. I worked there for two years with renowned JJ instructor, Marc Boggia, who improved my teaching abilities beyond recognition.
With a desire to learn more, I then accepted the offer to teach for Golf Made Simple, the #3 ranked Golf School in the United States. I was to be their instructor at their European location in Spain, while regularly travelling to the US to train and teach classes there also.
After six years with GMS, I feel ready to return to Scotland to take on my own business and put the knowledge I have amassed to good use.
Haddington Golf Club are a key member of the Haddington Community Sport Hub and this was met with encouragement from Scott who is looking to embed himself and the club into working together to improve sport within Haddington.
I strongly believe that the golf club should play an important role in any society. It is not only a facility for golfers, but can be a social hub for the whole local community. Having returned to
Scotland after many years away, I will look to use the experience I have gained and add it to the thoughts and ideas of the other local club representatives so that we can work together to make our community that much stronger. As a golf Professional, my primary interest is to encourage new people into the game however, anything I can do to strengthen the Community Sport Hubs as a whole here in East Lothian, I’ll be happy to do.
I look forward to working with you all in the coming year and invite you all to stop by the new-look Haddington Golf Club sometime soon.
A real positive addition to the sporting community of Haddington and we all look forward to seeing future developments at the golf club. If you want more information on Scott or Haddington Golf club you will find their website full of deals and information on the club.
