Dunbar & Ormiston are cream of cross country crop

Dunbar & Ormiston claim titles at Hallhill Primary Cross Country Event

Primary XC 2015

At this week’s Primary School event, Dunbar primary school ran away with the team shield for the ‘Large Schools’ competition on their home turf. There were over two hundred pupils primary 6 and 7 from across East Lothian competing in the small schools and big schools races. Despite the sunshine, it was a cold and windy day at Hallhill with good support from local primary schools and parents.  The team event – combined boys and girls results – was a clear win for Dunbar in the large schools’ competition and in the boys race the top three finishers were all from Dunbar with Ben Smith having a strong performance to take the win ahead of team mates Micky Wimbeldon-Hall and Daniel Collins. In the girls’ race, it was a sister act on the podium with great run from Emma Johnson (Prestonpans Primary) to win the 1.5mile race ahead of Law Primary’s Marielle Gallagher and with younger sister Katie Johnson (Prestonpans) taking the third spot on the podium. Kings Meadow finished second in the overall team standings for the large schools competition, with Law Primary third.

In the Small Schools section it was Ormiston Primary who came out top in the team standings, beating seven year defending champions Yester Primary into second place, with Loretto coming a close third. In the boys’ race it was Ross Cadzow form Yester who first across the finish line chased home by Jasin Zakrzewski for second place and Jack Renton (Ormiston) in third in what was a very competitive race. In the girls’ race Alisha Mallen from Stenton Primary took the victory ahead of Yester’s Annie Wilson and Bella Bishop (East Linton).
