East Lothian Pilots New Swim Coaching Course

Coach development continues in East Lothian

Level 2 Coaching Swimming

Last weekend 12 coaches completed the UKCC Level 2 Coaching Swimming course. East Lothian was lucky enough to pilot the new course through Scottish Swimming, which is now run over 3 weekends instead of 4.

Coaches from Haddington, Musseburgh, Tranent and East Lothian took the majority of places on the course before the remaining few given out on a first come first served basis, some travelling from afar just to get a place. The demand for a Level 2 Coaching Course was high and it suggests the number of coaches looking to progress and develop their skills has increased meaning a very positive outlook for our local clubs!!

The course was held at Loch Centre, Tranent and Tranent Swimming Club kindly agreed to allow candidates the opportunity to coach their swimmers over the three weekends. A big thanks to all at TASC!

The course consists of a mixture of practical and theory work, with candidates covering sports science, health and saftey, stroke technique and session planning. A level 2 qualified coach is a requirement for Swimming clubs when they are afiliated to Scottish Swimming and have their SwiMark accreditation. Again, the dedication of our local coaches in developing their skills and enhancing their knowledge must be commmended.
