athletes and the sun shine at the East Lothian Track & Field Open
As one of the final track & field meetings of the summer season, the East Lothian Athletics Arena was lucky to be basked in sunshine for most of the day, despite the torrential downpours the previous evening. It was only strong headwinds in the afternoon that put hold to some outstanding performances in the afternoon programme.
Almost 150 athletes from across East Lothian and the rest of Scotland competed at the open event, which also incorporated the East Lothian Track & Field Championships for county residents and club members. There was strong representation from Dunbar Running Club, Musselburgh & District AC as well as Haddington East Lothian Pacemakers.
The senior performance of the day came from Dalkeith resident Greg Louden (Lasswade AC) who set a new personal best in the 400m with 47.53seconds. Murray Sim of Musselburgh picked up a win in the 100m and a third place finish in the 200m despite the blustery conditions. In the Open Women’s competition, North Berwick sprinting star Elizabeth Musgrove (HELP) produced her second fastest time over 300m (39.92seconds) despite it being a sole effort. Musgrove also picked up a win in the 200m. In the junior boys Owen Ashall (HELP) had three wins out of three in the Under-11 boys 80m, 150m and long jump. In the Under-11 Girls Grace Brennan (HELP) picked up a win in the 150m and a third place in the 80m. At the same age-group Francesca McGhie of Musselburgh came second in the 80m and third in the long jump with Airdrie’s Darci Burns impressing with wins in the 80m and long jump. Josh Abboot from Gala shone in the Under-13 competition with wins in the 100m, 200m and a second place in the 800m. Catriona McPheat (Dunbar) was first across the line in the 800m and the 200m, with Regan Fyfe (Musselburgh AC) claiming solid second place finishes in the 100m, 200m and a win the Shot Putt. At the Under-15 age-group Kate Johnstone (Musselburgh AC) won the 100m and 1500m and where Dunbar resident Imogen Wilson took wins in the 800m and Long Jump. Dunbar Grammar pupil, Cameron Steven, was in good form in the 800m, 400m and javelin in the Under-15 boys event as well as fellow Dunbar pupil Jordan Robbins in the 200m and High Jump. Harry Allison, North Berwick HS, picked up wins in the 100m and long jump.
