Hockey Performance Athletes Selected For East District Squad

PAiS and Development squad athletes selected for U14 Boys and girls Interdistrict tournament.

Last month 6 PAiS (Performance Athletes in School) attended the East District U14 Boys trials hoping to be selected for the annual U14 Interdistrict Tournament.

Hamish Walker, Roan Frostwick and Ross Lunn from (North Berwick High School), Calum Nicholson (Dunbar Grammar) and Alex Riddell (Knox Academy) who are also members of Fidra Hockey Club in North Berwick had to attend two trial dates in Edinburgh along with fifty other athletes from all over the East of Scotland. For some of the boys, this was their first attempt at East District trials so it was an especially nervous time for Hamish, Alex and Calum.

At the end of the second trial, Ross, Roan, Alex and Hamish made it through to the first training session.  Roan had made it this far last year so was determined to be selected for the final squad of 18.  His hard work and commitment paid off and Roan and Alex were eventually picked for the East District training squad.

The efforts of all the boys was tremendous and they represented their school, club and performance squad in an extremely professional manner.

The boys were not the only success however. Fiona Sharp from North Berwick High School and Fidra Hockey Club was also selected for the Girls U14 East District Squad.  This an enormous achievement for Fiona who is trains with the East Lothian Hockey Development squad.

The Interdistrict tournament used to be mixed.  This is the first year that it will be run as a boys and girls U14 tournament.

It takes place on Sunday 11 May in Dundee.  Good luck to you all!!
