After a year and a half of moving around the pitches in East Lothian hockey has finally returned home to Meadowmill Sports Centre.
The water based pitch at Meadowmill Sports Centre, Tranent had been in a bad state and in desperate need of repairs for some time. In August 2014 at the start of the new academic year the pitch was finally closed. Since then there has been no hockey at the sports centre. However thanks to the help of the Sports Co-ordinators at the Secondary schools, East Lothian hockey was able to continue.
The performance programme (PAiS) continued at Preston Lodge High School and Ross High School. The development squads also trained at Preston Lodge and festivals and tournaments took place at the other high schools. Without the help of the secondary sports co-ordinators hockey would have ceased entirely for almost two years.
Now hockey returns home to a brand new pitch with new Olympic goals and it is great to be back. Huge thanks must go to everyone who helped to secure the new pitch and to those who helped sustain hockey for so long.
