LP Run

£1,785.50 Raised for StreetFit Scotland

Edinburgh Running Network (ERN) are delighted to confirm a whopping £1,785.50 was raised for StreetFit Scotland, following their ‘LP Run’ Event, held at Meadowmill Sports Centre on Sunday 25th August.

After a 12 month hiatus due to the closure of Meadowbank Stadium, ERN were delighted to be able to host the 2019 LP Run once again, this time, at a new venue, the fantastic East Lothian Athletics Arena at Meadowmill Sports Centre, in East Lothian.

Organised with sponsorship support from enjoyleisure and East Lothian Council, ERN welcomed 96 runners at the event including 5 from nominated charity beneficiary, StreetFit Scotland.

Streetfit Scotland is a charity providing a health, fitness and well- being programme for the homeless and socially disadvantaged to reduce social isolation and improve mental and physical health (charity no SCO 046638 http://www.streetfitscotland.org/).

The ‘LP Run’ itself, is not your traditional running event. It is based on the oldest race in Houston, Texas now in its 52nd year.  On the crack of the starting pistol, entrants run as many revolutions (laps) of the track in 33 and 1/3 minutes, all while listening to top tunes.  The entrants were responsible for counting their own laps, however bands were given out after each lap to help track progress.   An independent verification was also in place for the front runners, with prizes being awarded for the top male and female finishers, as well as spot prizes.

Adding to the fun and excitement of the race, entrants were able to put forward their song choice suggestions, this year around the theme of Europe! Yes! Putting the fun back into Brexit, entrants could ponder over whether they wanted a break-up or a love-in, or maybe just “‘Mamma Mia’ here we go again!” – just as long as there was a European connection.  And of course, the run ended with the ‘Final Countdown’.

Keeping the event a family affair, there was also a kids race, which involved running one lap of the track.   After the races was done and dusted, each participant had well and truly (as the club like to say) “ERN’d their cake”!  Edinburgh Running Network members love their cake and have a lot of great bakers, so there were prizes for the best cakes too!

Edinburgh Running Network spokesperson Ellie Barnard commented, “We have been blown away by response from the year’s event. To raise £1785.50 for StreetFit Scotland is just fantastic.  The whole event could not have been achieved with the generous support of enjoyleisure and East Lothian Council, and for this we are truly grateful.” “We were delighted to be able to host the event once again in a new venue with such fantastic facilities, so close to home.   We also like to say a tremendous well done, to everyone who came along and participated.  It was fantastic to see many new and old faces to joining us for this fun-filled event.”

Michelle Reilly, Founder and CEO of Streetfit Scotland said "Please thank enjoyleisure for sponsoring the event, allowing it to happen at Meadowmill and making no charge for the facilities. Thanks also to the staff for their help on the day. The money raised will go a long way to support our patrons"

enjoyleisure’s Athletics Development Officer Lynda Gilroy added, “When ERN approached us to host the LP Run, we were only too delighted to welcome the opportunity and become an official sponsor.   It was an absolute joy to see so many people running on the track, listening to music and participating in active, family-friendly fun!  We can’t deny the cake was delicious too!”
