Sporting success achieved by individual pupils at Musselburgh Grammar School so far in 2013.
PARALYMPIC BOCCIA
Sean McCann was selected to attend a series of trials for the GB Paralympic Boccia Team for Rio 2016. Although we was not successful this was a great honour for someone aged only 14 years old and Sean will definitely be one to look out for at the 2020 Olympics. In the meantime, Sean is playing with the Scotland Under 19 Squad.
BADMINTON
Jason Cameron was recently selected to represent Mid and East Lothian at the Scottish Schools National Badminton Championships. This is the first time in a long while that an MGS pupil has competed at such a high level in Badminton. Teammates Morgan Naples and Callum Fergusson are also proving to be bright stars on the badminton scene in East Lothian, with all three claiming winner or runner up spots in their respective competitions at East and Mid Schools.
GOLF
Two of our young golfers have been claiming the headlines recently. Sophie Bain has been selected for the Scottish Golf Academy and Daniel Gaines finished runner up with the best U14 handicap at the Scottish Junior Golf Tour at Turnberry.
SWIMMING
Rachel Sharples and Kirsty Hunter perform consistently well in swimming but their recent success at the Scottish Schools really showed their class. Their hard work and dedication paid off Rachel taking 1st place in the 100m Butterfly for age 17-19 and Kirsty finishing 3rd in the 100m Breast Stroke for age 17-19.
FOOTBALL
Lewis Whyte has been included in the Scotland A Team. He was selected to play in an International Tournament in Italy recently but unfortunately dislocated his shoulder shortly before they were due to leave and was unable to play. He is still in the squad though and will attend the next event.
CROSS COUNTRY
In cold, wet conditions at the recent East Lothian Cross Country event, Joy Archer came 1st in the S1 girls event and Rosina Graham came 3rd in the S2 girls event. We also had a number of 4th place finishes – Ashley Page in S2 girls, Tom Foley in S2 boys and Glen Anderson in S3 boys.
GYMNASTICS
At a recent East Lothian Gymnastics Showcase competition Melissa Ashton came 1st on vault and 1st overall while Alex Sherry and Lucy Good came joint 2nd on floor and joint 3rd overall.
