North Berwick’s netball club, The Bass Rocketeers, are once again celebrating after securing double promotion for both the first and second teams to Divisions 2 and 4 respectively of CENA (City of Edinburgh Netball Association).

It is the Rocketeer’s second successive league title having only been formed in 2016 becoming the first community netball club in East Lothian

The Rocketeers first team, who have been promoted to division two, clinched the title at home in their penultimate match of the season with a nail biting 50-49 win over RDVNC.

The side then went on to finish their league campaign last Sunday with a 32-38 win over Dunedin Leopards to finish the season on 49 points, 5 points ahead of nearest rivals Caledonian Eagles.

Head coach Mary Ann Cosgrove said:

“What an incredible achievement in only two years.  To enter the fourth division as a new team and win two divisions in two seasons,”

The team had to battle hard all season against some very good opposition, but recorded 15 wins from a possible 18 with only two defeats and one tie.

The second team managed to finish in second place in the 5th division and secured a position in the playoff for promotion to the 4th division. After an impressive 33-21 victory against Dunedin Lions on Sunday the Bass Rocketeers second team now have a place in the 4th division for next season.

A unique feature of the Bass Rocketeers is that their teams are multi-generational with players ranging from teenagers into their fifties.  This provides a desirable mix of youth and experience and gives the  Rocketeers a competitive edge over their opponents.

Matches for the new season, getting underway in September, will continue to be played at Oriam on the Heriot-Watt University Campus.

The Bass Rocketeers currently provides training for competitive, recreational and junior players and is going from strength to strength.
