Scottish Schools Badminton Senior Inter Area

Mid & East Lothian win Title

Scottish Schools Badminton Senior Inter Area

East Lothian’s young badminton players were on top form and flying high against the most challenging opposition at the recent Scottish Schools Senior (U19) Inter Area team event.

Mid and East Lothian had one of the youngest teams in the competition with all 8 players from East Lothian schools: three of our boys were U17 – Alexander Burnett and Douglas Crawford from Preston Lodge and Jason Cameron , Musselburgh Grammar and our 4th boy was Preston Lodge’s U15 year old James Morgan. Our girls , also from Preston Lodge and playing up an age group were U16’s Laura Moos, Eloise Morris, and Shona Whillans who were joined by even younger 13 year old Rachel Cameron, younger sister of Jason, from Musselburgh.

Age, Aptitude and Ability are important in teaching situations and ‘Age’ was no hindrance to our players at the newly furbished and recently re-named Sir Craig Reedie Badminton Centre, Glasgow.

In the first match nerves were tingling as they faced a strong Glasgow team, but our youngsters played out of their skins to take the match 6 – 1.

Next up was Lanarkshire who had a team consisting of very experienced tournament players and were also defending champions. Mid & East unbelievably played some their best games ever they toppled some of Lanarkshire’s top players to run away with a 5 – 2 win.

Old enemy Edinburgh were up next and that is always difficult as the players train together in Lothian Squads however Mid & East comfortably took a weakened Edinburgh team 6 – 1.

Our last and final match was against North-East which we won 7 – 0 and everyone was thrilled and delighted to receive the shield, title and individual gold medals.

What a day of great badminton, played in good spirit and success away above our expectations!
