Forty eight children and their Team Managers descended on Uddingston Sports Centre to take part in the second U14 Team Competition. The event was held last year with four teams and this year six teams were keen to participate in this friendly event.
Teams were split into two pools with Lanarkshire, West Lothian and Perth in Pool A and Dunfermline, East Lothian and Stirling in Pool B.
After some very close matches Lanarkshire emerged as the winners of Pool A and East Lothian the winners of Pool B. After a team talk from their managers – ex – internationalists Christine Black for East Lothian and Jamie Neill for Lanarkshire the players took to the court for the final.
The matches were very close with many of the games going to setting, however in the end Lanarkshire proved too strong for East Lothian and emerged 5 -3 winners.
East Lothian Badminton Officer Christine Black was delighted with the spirit and the fight her young development team showed throughout their matches considering 5 out of 8 players were still U12 age group.
It was a great afternoon of badminton played in a friendly, sporting atmosphere.
The East Lothian team was as follows –
Girls Boys
Emma Lessels (Preston Lodge) Archie Bryden (Preston Lodge)
Amanda Martin (Knox Academy) Euan Campbell (Dunbar Primary)
Kirsty Nicolson (Dunbar Primary) Cameron Pike (Dunbar Grammar)
