West of Scotland U19 Junior Badminton Championships success for local pair
Ross High School pupil Kelly Sands won the mixed doubles title with partner Tommy Reynolds (Edinburgh) at the West of Scotland U19 Junior Badminton Championships held recently at the Cockburn Centre, Glasgow. In the group matches they ousted top seeds Stewart Ferns and Heather MacPherson in a hard fought three set match to set up an all Lothian final where they beat Graham Pettigrew and Hannah Wade 21/19 21/17.
In the U15 age group Shona Whillans (Longniddry) reached the final of the girl’s doubles with partner Gemma Wright (Edinburgh) but just lost out in a tight three set match to Glasgow’s Eleanor O’Donnell and Cara McCulloch 14/21 21/19 14/21. Shona also reached the semi-final of the mixed doubles with regular partner Glen Lewington (Edinburgh) where once again she lost out to eventual winners Anthony Grimley and Cara McCulloch.
