2018 Scottish Rugby Regional Academy Championships

Around 35 East Lothian players from U16’s to U20’s represented the Fosroc Borders / East Lothian Regional Academy this summer

The Regional Academy Rugby Championships have recently come to an end after an intense month of games between the four Scottish regional academies. The U16’s and u18’s played three games against the other academies, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Caledonia before playing the fourth and final game of the Championship at Murrayfield. The finals day included a final and 3rd vs 4th play off based on results over the first 3 fixtures. The U20’s only played two fixtures in a straight knockout format .

The highlight for the U16 squad was the 45-45 draw against a strong Edinburgh team in the first game of the championship. They didn’t manage to win any games but showed good improvement over all the games. The U18 highlight was a gutsy win over Caledonia in the group games with Caledonia going on to win the U18 Championship overall. The U20’s lost their first game to Edinburgh but put in a good performance on the finals day to beat Glasgow U20’s for a third place finish.

Although none of the Borders / East Lothian teams made a final this year, it was good to see all East Lothian secondary schools were represented with around 35 East Lothian players taking part for either the U16’s, U18’s or the U20’s squads. The hard work lies ahead for all the players as they now head back to their school to prepare for the school conferences starting on 1st September.
