The Borders & East Lothian Academy U16 team and U18 team will both contest the National Final on Saturday at the National Academy Finals Day on 24th October. Both Games will take place on the main pitch of Murrayfield Stadium in what will be a very special experience for all the players involved.

The Borders & East Lothian U16 Academy team powered to a comprehensive win against the Caledonia U 16 Academy team last Friday, beating them 32 - 10. This was their first win of the Championship having lost to Glasgow in their first fixture and then by 1 point to Edinburgh in their following fixture. The four try bonus point was decisive in them making it to the final as the extra log point put them 1 point ahead of Caledonia and Glasgow on the table. Having lost to Edinburgh 20-19 to a last minute penalty during their fixture, the Borders & East Lothian U16 team will now get the chance to avenge defeat as they face off in the final this coming Saturday.

The Borders & East Lothian U18 Academy team lost their game against Caledonia U18’s on Friday. They started well but weren’t able to sustain their effort over the whole game and a strong Caledonia team ended up running out 27 – 17 winners. Caledonia U18’s have won all three of their games and will be a tough challenge in the final as the two teams face off again barely a week after their game last Friday. The Borders & East Lothian U18 team previously recorded an impressive victory against Edinburgh U18’s and narrowly lost to Glasgow U18’s which has resulted in them making the national final.

Both teams have good representation from East Lothian with 10 players in each squad. Every school in East Lothian is represented which is a credit to the work going on around East Lothian to develop our young rugby talent. This means that 20 young rugby players from East Lothian will for the first time this coming weekend, experience a national age grade final at Murrayfield and we wish them all the best for the games ahead.
