East Lothian Athletics Development Group award Young Athlete of the Year Awards

EL Young Athletes 2012

The East Lothian Athletics Development Group celebrated and acknowledged the successes of two of East Lothian's top athletes at the ELADG AGM on Monday 26 November 2012.

Maria Lyle (12) of Dunbar Grammar was named Female Young Athlete of the Year following an extremely successful year for the young T35 athlete (cerebral palsy). Maria has competed all over the UK making world leading times in her T35 category claiming the following titles: British Junior Nationwide Disability Athletics Champion in 100m and 200m (July 2012), British Junior Nationwide Disability Athletics Championships “Most Outstanding Female” Award (July 2012), · McCain Birmingham Games and Parallel Success Champion in 100m and 200m (July 2012), Scottish Disability Sport Junior Champion in 100m and 200m (June 2012), Scottish Disability Sport Cross Country Champion (March 2012)

Jake Roulstone (14) of North Berwick High School was named the Male Young Athlete of the Year. In 2012 Jake made huge progress in the sprints, in particular over the 400m. Winning silver in the 200m at the Scottish Schools Athletics Association Championships, he then took gold in the 400m the next day. Jake also won a bronze medal at the Scottish National U16 Championships in his preferred event of 400m. He is currently one of the top ranked 400m athletes for his age-group in Scotland, and is ranked within the top 10 in the whole of the UK for his age-group.
