Football Highlights 2017

Football Development has seen lots going on in 2017 and a lot of positive impacts across the county.

To start the year we appointed Lorna Esson as Graduate Intern in a full time role fixed term for 12 months with the support of the East Lothian Works programme that gave us the opportunity to put more time and support into the growth of the girls game in East Lothian amongst other programmes.

This in turn offered girls only Joelle Murray Soccer Centres, a Girls Clubs Football Forum and our first ever girls only holiday camp.

Our Tesco Bank Football Challenge continues to increase each year with every P3 class receiving football taster sessions in curriculum time.

The Scottish FA Coach Education course attendees continues to prove popular with increase again on last years attendees and even more pleasing was seeing 10% of those attendees being female coaches and we have to mention the coach who cycled all the way from South Korea to attend our courses such is the regard our coach education courses are held around the world.

We have opened more participation centres both through the Lidls Skills Centres program for P1 - P4s and our Mini Kickers Centres for pre-school kids that is given more young people the chance to be active in a safe environment close to home.

The challenge for 2018 now is to build on a lot of those successful programmes, develop more opportunities for people and really work hard to support those needs of everyone who is or wants to be involved in football in East Lothian.
